Seeing the Supernatural (How to Sense, Discern and Battle in the Spiritual Realm) by Jennifer Eivaz

Seeing the Supernatural by Jennifer Eivaz

  • Jennifer sees that this is a gift that is talked about and perhaps not one that is sought after.
  • She shares regarding her own experiences of the supernatural growing up and as she became a Christian.
  • Not always an easy gift to have as it is often misunderstood.
  • The gift of discerning of spirits is meant for ““the good of all” (1 Corinthians 12:7).  The word good in this verse is the Greek word symphero, which means to bring together (as in a symphony) and to be profitable, beneficial and advantageous.” (page 25 &26)
  • This gift is meant to be used in love, not judgement.
  • Every sense can be used in discerning spirits, take note of what your senses are telling you.
  • Gives some directions if you are wanting to have the gift of discerning the spirits.
  • When discerning who is for you and who is against you need to listen to your knower, your imagination and pay attention to your peace.
  • Even the most sensitive discerner can have trouble discerning the spirit of religion because it is the expert of disguise.
  • Why do we not look out for or are we aware of angels in our midst?
  • Angels are God’s messengers are always there at God’s command.  There is always a reason.
  • Evil spirits are named and their attributes to be wary of.
  • What do you do with the things you discern, negative or positive:

o   Pray

o   Know when to address what you discern

o   Discern the difference between a broken person and an apostate (defined)

o   Learn from your mistakes

  • “The gift of discerning of spirits comes with a price tag for its revelation.  It requires that those who have it be selfless to the core and be co-laborers with Christ’s agenda to establish His Kingdome on the earth.” (page 148)
  • At the end of every chapter there is a summary of the principles covered and some questions for you to consider (could be used in a small group)

In this book Jennifer shares her own journey of being given the gift of discerning of spirits.  She has seen many people healed, released and atmospheres changed because of her gift and others that operate in the gift around her.  This gift is to be used in love and showing the love that Jesus has for his people.  When she was discussing the names of the evil spirits and their traits it struck me that all the demons could be cast out but the spirit of Jezel hasn’t been.  The prayers are different, needing to be about the redemption of the person, not casting out.  When forgiveness is received, so too are they free of the spirit.

This book is easy to read, and Jennifer Eviaz demonstrates a great passion for the Lord and realises the need for people to be able to have the gift of discernment.  The summary and questions are useful to encapsulate the learning and also to consider and question what has been taught.  Although this website is about the gift of prophecy predominantly it is important to prophecy to discern when it is time to speak and when it is time to be silent.  It is also important to be aware of the forces that are as work even as a prophetic word is given.  Prophecy being about encouragement, the evil one does not want people to be encouraged!!
